Belton House is a grade 1 listed stately home in Lincolnshire dating from the 1600s. Every year at Christmas time, they have Christmas light trails on the grounds, which is very festive. This year I decided to go, having previously gone there in 2019.
I enjoyed the trail, which began at the estate’s stable block. There was a selection of street food vendors selling pizza, Indian stuff, and some others that I can’t remember. There was also a café where you could have a turkey roll.
I had Indian twisted nachos with chicken curry sauce on top. It was quite nice and something I hadn’t tried before. We also had some very expensive hot chocolate to drink, which wasn’t worth the price. It tasted more like chocolatey water—three cups for about £18!
Along the trail were many different types and colours of lights. There were big stars, illuminated trees, and flaming torches. Lasers shone across the lake.
There was even a light show shone on the front of the house, showing presents, snowflakes, and other festive imagery.
It was pleasant to drive around, witnessing the spectacle of all the twinkly lights in the darkness. Although I found it similar to when I went to Luminate at Sandringham last year.
I would say the wheelchair access was pretty good. There were pathways all around the trail. A lot of it was a bit gravelly but wasn’t difficult for me to drive over. They had installed ramps where there were steps. It was also muddy in places, though not enough to get stuck in.
On the way to the Trail, there are cobblestones along the roads and in the stable block area. But it’s possible to avoid the worst of it as there is a flat bit along the side of the cobbled roads which I drove on.
Below are some photos from Christmas at Belton for you to enjoy!
