My Covid infection update

I have Covid.  Yes, the little spiky bastard got me again. It’s the 2nd time in 2 months that I’ve been infected.  The last time was in October, so I was hoping that I would be safe for a while, but no such luck.

At the time of writing, I am on day 5 after testing positive, so hopefully, I don’t have much longer to go.

Last time it took 8 days for me to test negative.

My symptoms haven’t been bad, thankfully.  Mostly I’ve had phlegm in my throat and cough with some aches in various places. Sometimes I had a tight chest which my inhaler helped with.

I’ve had colds in the past, which were worse than this has been so far.  So I am grateful for that.  The first time was the same.

So I’m glad that I got infected at this point in the pandemic when the virus has become less dangerous.  Also, it’s after I’ve had all my vaccinations.

The first time I got infected, I wondered whether I would be eligible for Covid treatments.  I registered for my lateral flow test online and waited for someone to contact me like it said they would if I was eligible.

No one did, so we phoned 111 to ask them about it.  They eventually told me that I wasn’t eligible for them because there were strict criteria for people who could have the treatments.  People like cancer patients, people with Down syndrome, or neurological conditions. As far as I can tell, the criteria have not changed.

Anyway, today I received an email from the NHS saying, “your medical records currently show that you may be eligible for treatments if you get coronavirus.”

Even if I am, it’s a bit late for that now.  But I don’t know why they had decided that I’m now eligible when I was told before that I wasn’t.

It would have been more helpful if they had told me that last week!  But oh well, it’s not been that bad so far, anyway.

I’m looking forward to that negative test!
