This article from Disability Now hits the nail on the head. Legislation such as the equality act is not enforced, so Restaurants or music venues will not make themselves accessible unless disabled people complain.
It shows that the government is not serious about improving accessibility for the disabled unless they enforce accessibility standards.
It’s a lack of enforcement which has left attitudes towards disabled people pretty much unchanged, argues Professor Mike Oliver, and initiatives such as the Government’s Disability Confident can never be more than a busted flush.
